  • New to snakes, first ball python.

Hello everyone I purchased my first snake a few weeks okay. He took FT right away. He is currently 190 grams. The picture below is current and he's in shed.

The next picture is when I first got him.

I'm still a little scared around him but he's very sweet. Thanks.

Congrats on the new addition! While this is a boa centric site, many of us, myself included, also keep ball pythons. That's a good looking pet rock you've got there!

Keep working with him, not to train him, but yourself. Once you get a little more confidence around him, you'll find snakes of all kinds to be awesome pets!

Congrats on the new pick up and welcome to the forums. Ball pythons are one of many great pets for 1st time snake owners. They are very sweet and calm. Just keep training yourself. All ball pythons rest in a recoil position, even if they moving thru your hand or resting in your hands, so don't be afraid. To kinda give you an idea on what I'm saying. Go to YouTube and watch a episode of Brian snakebytes tv show. He talks about the ball python. Very good guy and and the show helps out a lot of people will questions. Good luck to you, and welcome to the ride or should I say the journey

I've had my ball for almost a decade and he's never ever been anything but pleasant and patient. He's the one I pull out to meet people, especially those fearful of snakes. If he's in a lazy mood he'll watch tv with me. I'm even using my nickname for him as my forum handle. You have a beautiful snake and with time I think you'll have a rewarding relationship.

Lol, don't be scared. The first time I ever held a snake was a full grown ball python when I went to buy him from someone off Craigslist (poor baby I hate to see all of the unwanted pets there) and I was afraid he was going to try to bite because I had just eaten a hamburger. When you're relaxed the snakes can sense it and especially ball pythons are super calm.
