Re:amazon tree boa
I have been thinking about getting an ammie myself. In fact, that will most likely be my next purchase. Personally, I think they're really cool, and would be interesting snakes to work with. They are known to be quite aggressive snakes, but personally, I think their general temperament is overly exaggerated. A friend of mine has bred a few litters of ammies, and out of maybe 20 babies, all were very tame, and one or two were quite nippy. So, perhaps the more generations that are bred in captivity, the less aggressive ammies we will find for sale. Look at what's happened w/ the retics and most of the blood pythons. Besides that, ammies have a slow strike that's supposedly pretty easy to dodge. Can't wait to work with these guys.

Re:amazon tree boa
i think its a toss up about their aggressive demeanor. it really depends on the animal and whether or not the animal is captive bred or wild caught. i have worked with amazons and i must say i have never seen a wc amazon that was even remotely tame. the captive bred animals i have come in contact with may have been initially nippy but seemed to tame down nicely with frequent handling. all in all i cant think of any other snake that can come in such a wide variety of colors as amazons. they also tend to be more forgiving of husbandry mistakes than other members of the corallus group. man now i relly cant wait for this show, i am sure they will have plenty of amazons for me to choose from. i will keep you guys posted on what i get and pics will be here soon after.

Re:amazon tree boa
From my point of viex all amazons are agressive, but not as agressive as GTPs and ETBs...i have a couple breeder Amazons, but i stopped breeding them because the cage requirments are high demanding...I dont use plastic or tupper ware(sp?), i build my cages from hand....but if you want to get into tree boas start with an amazon...they are beautiful snakes....

Re:amazon tree boa
I think that the aggressiveness is all a matter of what you are expecting. If you get the snake expecting something that you can sit and watch TV with then an ATB is going to be considered aggressive. The "handleable" ones that I have been around still lunge at things that pass by and people standing with in striking distance. It is just something that needs to be expected of a snake with heat sensitivity like the ATBs do.
