I kinda' made my Northern Pine upset w/ me yesterday. It was feeding time. I forgot to check on him before offering the food. Well, he was opaque. He's just starting to get comfortable w/ me, well, maybe tolerant would be a better term. ;D So I figured it best to throw on a glove to get the fella out seeing as he wasn't seeing. Well, he got out of his tank & into his feedbox w/ minimal aggression. However, when I picked him up, I acquired a few woodchips, too. I'm talking like ten shards or less. They were on one end, so I figured: eh, no biggy drop the rat on the opposite end. Well, when I did, he ended up latching on & draggin supper to the other end (the one w/ the chips) to eat. I saw that a wood shard had stuck to his meal. I quickly threw the glove back on & got him off the rodentia to get the woodchip off it. Needless to say, he didn't care for it at all. He even struck at me. *lol* Try to save the poor thing a trip to the vet & what thanks do I get? He was so upset that he was still hissing even when he downed the rat. It was too funny.

I am glad to see that he's a fairly slow striker, though.

LOL. Some gratitude for helping the lil guy out huh ? Do yourself and him a favor also.... Give him another day and check his mouth out to make sure that when you removed his prey from his mouth..none of his teeth got hurt at all. Just to be sure so that you can watch for any infection if any did is all.
Most snakes will NOT be too appreciative of you dis-lodging their prey from their mouth at all :-/. Yet, sometimes ya got no choice but to have to do such, like this instance. better to have to deal with his 'tude rather than dealing with some mouth rot etc if the wood had gotten stuck in his mouth and you didn't notice it at all. Good work btw. Your snake will eventually get over it.. ya hope lol. As for the slow striking.. hmmm.. just don't count on it all the time hehe. He may have just been hesitant wondering just what the heck was going on was all.

Bad choice of words. I just had to get in there w/ him & he dropped the rat. But I went ahead & checked him. All appears well. He's not mad @ me anymore either.
