I noticed that the rattling sound that my Northern Pine makes seems to come form his tail. I originally thought it was just him hitting it on woodchips/glass/whatever. However, it kind of looks like there's a semi-transparent tip to the tail similair to an actual rattlesnake's. How accurate am I on all of this?

Re: Rattle-thingy
LOL. The northern pine was my first colubrid I ever had that did the rattling up bit at all. Of course I had no clue what-so-ever that the pine did the rattling bit at all when I first got him..AND Boy was I surprised the first time he did it to me lmao. Ya get used to it after time though np hehe. Most do this as part of their bluffing they love to exhibit is all.
In regards to exactly what is going on to cause the rattling sound in your pine snake...
Your quite close actuallyThe rattling is coming from the snake's tail end. Allthough it does not possess anything similar to what a rattler has to produce such "noise" at all. I asked around as it really intrigued me as to just how they are able to rattle up without having the "rattle-thingys"..lol... that rattlers have. What I basically found was this.. The snake is moving it's tail at such a speed that the sound that comes about from doing such aka "rattling" is actually air being moved around at lightining speed basically. Their tail end does not have to touch anything for this to happen either...That's what prompted me to inquire of just how it happens. If you find a "scientific" answer to just how they are able to rattle up please let me know. I'd love to hear it. ;D
