  • just 2 pics of my new cornsnake

    Hi all,

I went to the pet store yesterday to pick up new equipment for 4 more sets of rat breeders since I'm getting 4 new pythons. One thing led to another and as usual I ended up in the snake room.

Just glancing (aren't we always?) I saw these albino cornsnake hatchlings all moving about. I took one out and took to him quick. It was an instant bond and the snake wouldn't let go of my hand. I walked out with him on top of a bunch of new rat gear.

He just ate last Sunday and I could still see the little pinky in there. The owner (very nice guy) says he has been a good eater. I've never had an albino snake before, or a corn (and I've been owning them for 16 years -- had a kingsnake for 13 1/2 though) so this was all new to me.

Here's one pic of his new spot in my new rhinorax, and one of him in my big fat hand so you can see how incredibly tiny he is.

I really love his head and first 5-6 diamond type shapes on his head to his back area -- you can't see them well in this picture because I took these last night just real fast to show one of my friends. I will probably take more soon when I take a bunch of all my new boaphile stuff.

p.s. the shoes are dog toys now.. just to clarify

Congrats on your new corn snake! It is shocking how small they start out isn't it? Sooo cute and fragile. What's his/her name?

I haven't come up with a name yet still working on that. It is almost unbelievable how small it is. Last time I went there I go to play with one of the kenyan sand boas and that was pretty small but no where near as skinny as this guy. I guess being around my boas who are 6 and 8 1/2 foot for the last few years have made me forget about how small some babies are.

Thanks for all the replies. He seems pretty happy but I will get him some plants and stuff this weekend for him to hide in also.

Re: just 2 pics of my new cornsnake

Yeah thanks guys I really like him but I had a hell of a Friday, let me tell you. If you have any BP racks you might recognize mine and know its rather large for such a small snake and he broke out one of the 'breather holes'; I never even thought of such a thing.

15 hours later and I found him inside a brick. Like, inside. There's some old bricks in the basement with a few holes in each one. He was up in there I saw him only by pure luck. I was freaking out and thought he fell down a drain or something. So, with that, I came up with his name. I will call him Houdini for his great escape.

Even though it's been all of 4 days that I've had him it felt like I lost a child or something, even though I don't have kids but you get my point.

I'm so glad I found him, but I've swapped his enclosures until he thickens up a bit.

Yea, the little ones are always escape artists. They're so tiny they can get out of almost anything unless you have a really tight lid. My sister used to keep a bunch of different corns. I like them even though I'm more of a boa/python guy.
