I picked up a baby African Rock today. He is awesome. He tagged me at the show when I was trying to put him back into the container he was in. I guess he really wanted to be out. He's been gentle and easy going since he got home though. The price was too good to pass up! Believe it or not I picked him up for only $10.00! I'll wait like 3 or 4 days and offer him a small rat! I can post picks sometime in the near future!

I think that the temper thing is more like the burms in that they can easly become mean but are nice for the most part just miss handled by the owners...

Hey TC,
Now its gonna sound like I am disagreeing with some here, but I am only telling you my times with African Rocks. I have dealt with three so far this year. Two were owned and cared for. Both had the same story. The snake was sweet, never a problem and when they hit 12 foot, wham, they got mean, and I mean meeaann.. Those two i was asked to help locate a home for, they were hard to place, but each one was placed. The fun part was trying to get that big boy out of his home and into a bag without getting tagged or compressed. Took atleast 3 of us in both of those cases and this thing was watching till we opened the cage and wham it tried to give me a good night kiss, but I moved fast and was lucky. I think it took about 20 mins wresling that guy till we got him in and secure. I couldn't believe how much power it had. I really thought it was gonna win the match a few times.
My only word to you TC, is Please be so careful. I know you have dealt with snakes for awhile and you know your stuff, but Rocks are no joke. Not that this means anything, but the local petshop will not under any condidtions get someone a rock or have it in his store. he said that in 20 years of selling snakes, almost every rock he sold either came back or was gotten rid of by the one who got it because of its agressive nature.. Just be careful and keep that pup away from your face..

I agree with Steve on this one Rocks can get very down right nasty and the bigger they get the harder it is to work with them alone , please please always have someone with you when this baby gets big and be careful... And dont take me the wrong way nither,, i just care alot about all my friends
and dont want you to get tagged or crushed even though its a baby they grow very fast... :-\

Yeah, I had an idea. I've had 14 and 15 foot Burms as well as Retics and this really isn't much different than the Retics. I'm only feeding thawed frozen food and I'm going to use the slow growth feeding schedule when it hits 4 feet. I know that by nature they are grumpy. I was going to buy him at the normal price, but the credit card machine wasn't working and he said "you know what if you give me $10 cash he's yours". My buddy Hinchdawg handed me a $10 bill since I didn't take cash with me to try and keep from spending too much and he came home with me. Jenna's eyes popped out of her head when he tagged me trying to get him into his container. I don't think she'll be holding him anymore. She held him once at the vendors table and that was it.
Thanks for your concerns everyone, but if this guy get too mean and hard to handle I have friends that run the reptiles in 3 different zoos and 2 have already said when he gets 6 ft. or bigger they'd take him. All is covered.

You sure it's not like a Rolex wannabe from a guy's trunk? I'd run that guy under some water & make sure it doesn't wash dry.

T.C. I have to agree with Cuda and Steve on this one ..you get what you pay for..Theres a reason he was $10 bucks...Those are some nasty snakes..Pretty and huge..but nasty. Be careful..I personally don't want a 12-15 foot African Rock with a bad attitude in my house..Good Luck
