  • Update on Dieter

Well, I went ahead and tried Steve's suggestion on getting my ball to eat. I place him into a paper bag, Placed a live Rat Pinky in the bag with it, spray the bag a little, then place the food in the bag and seal it. Well, I did that on July 5 and he ate the one I put in there. So, yesterday, July 12. But this time I placed in a rat pinky and a hopper mouse and he gobbled up both of them!!!!!!! ;D I think I've finally got him eating again!!! He hasn't eaten since October, so I'm pretty releaved that he's finally eaten. I figure I'll keep feeding him 2 rat pinkies or pups and/or a hopper mouse every week for a couple of months, then get him back into his usual feeding schedule and try to get him back on F/T small rats!!! I hope he will go back to F/T I really don't want to keep feeding him live!!!!!! Which seems to be the only thing he wants now. I figure I'll feed him every week so that I'm filling him as much as he use to eat with the small rats!!! Thanks Steve for the suggestion and all the assistance everyone has offered!!!!

    Re:Update on Dieter

    Hey Evil,

That is great news.. Now after you get him upto weight, the next step is taking a dead fuzzie or weenling getting her wet, paper towel pat and put him in the bag with it for a little longer.. The wetness brings out the smell more and should trigger a good feeding responce.. I hate when they go off feedings.. Thats alot of stress for the owner..LOL

If you have problems switching him back to PK or FT lets us know, I have a few other tricks that work well..

    Continued luck,,

    Steve

After feeding him the live pikies/pups/hoppers for a month or so, should I got to PK and wet that slightly or F/T, but warm it in a ziplock bag?

        Hey Evil,

Yup that should work.. If you can I would try the PK first.. FT seems to have a different scent to them.. And if you PK one and wet it down, just drying off the extra wetness, you should get a good feeding responce..

I am really happy he ate..

Yeah, I think that most balls that actually go on off feed stop between sept. and Nov. But Yeah, waiting till July to start back up again, is quite along time. I'm hoping that I can get him back to F/T or PK. I really don't want to have to alway feed live. I'm kind of worried that might happen though. Because I talked to the previous owner, who always fed live, and he said that he NEVER went on off feed for him. And that was about 4-5 years. I don't know ??? I'll just do what I have to do, I guess. ??? ???

              Re:Update on Dieter

I have been real lucky.. I have had 4 balls of my one in the past , only one now that is my wifes and never had them go off feed.. The baby we have now is a year old, and never refuses food.. Hope she stays that way.. I have had rescues come in that took some work to get them feeding, but some work and tricks seemed to work well. The local petshop I supply mice to, call me up every time they have a hard feeder. Atleast they stopped calling me up when the snake was beyond help..

                    Re:Update on Dieter

Even better news!!!! I decided to go ahead and give it a try the other day. I gave him a F/T and he took it!!!! I thawed out a small rat, dried it off with a blow dryer and paper towel so that it wasn't dripping wet. Then I placed him in his feeding bag and handed him the rat. He took it right up!!!!! Oh, I'm so glad he took the F/T I really didn't like feeding him the live rat fuzzies. I hate hearing that squeek!!

Oh, yeah, I have a funny story about that. Actually it's pretty kool. Last week, I decided to feed him 3 live fuzzies. I've been placing two live fuzzies in the feeding bag with him, so that I don't have to interupt his feeding. Well, last week, I placed in the first fuzzy and he took it right away. So, before I closed up the bag for the day, I placed in the other two rats. Well He decided to put his length into good use and rapped his tail around the other two rats and started squeezing them as well. So picture this, a rat fuzzy in his mouth with his neck rapped around one and then the lower half of his body rapped around two others. It was such a funny/kool sight. I wish I had gotten a picture of it. Just thought I'd share this with all of ya.
