  • Look what 29 Bucks can get you

    Hi,
I couldn't resisit this little guy he was on sale and I figured heck he deserves to live, (my excuse for saving all the reptiles i can afford) so I bought him 29.00 bucks I ve seen them down to 19.00 this week. I wouldn't breed bp's for a living the are almost as cheep as goldfish around here.
He's settling into his sweater box nicely,
ps did I tell you he was the most aggresive snake in the group,, he nearly tagge d me when I picked him up.. hehe

Nice. Im not a big fan of Ball Pythons because of there tendencies to go off feed or not feed period. They truley are beautiful snakes though..I love some of the morphs...

Re:Look what 29 Bucks can get you

              HI Everyone,
A major event occured last nite after waiting nearly 10 day for JR to acclimate to his sweater box ((I never hold baby snakes I allow them to settle in for a month or two)) I thawed him a hopper mouse and put it in his box he promptly ignored it for about and hour so I removed his hide and tapped him on the side with the mouse ( i held the mouse with extra long forceps so the snake didn't feel threatoned they can see the heat of your hand) , he bit it once , twice, and then coiled around the little ftm and I closed the lids and quietly departed the reptile room ,,i came back and no mouse... whoooo...
The baby bp's are scary that first feeding...
I 'll wait another 10 days and try again. most people feed a little more than that but I want to give him incentive to feed ( hunger)..
And will fatten him up after we switch to rat products in a few months. ,, he tagged me a couple times too didn't break the skin ... the little stinker... ;D
              doug

psps any of you BP owners once they are converted to fresh thawed they seem to chil and become better feeders, I had a 2 y/o BP that fed in a feed box on thawed rat products like a champ and another that woud take them out of your hand ...

Cool Doug, glad everythings going good. I love the design on the ball pythons!!!!!!!!! I temporarily have a burm that has an awesome pattern. Wish they would not grow past 10 feet!!!!!!! Or I would keep him.

Re:Look what 29 Bucks can get you

It's usually not a good idea to try to stimulate a feeding response by tapping them with the prey. Usually dealing with ball pythons this methods just freaks them out unlike boas. Just a thought. Mine, you have to leave the prey item in the tote with them and close the lid or they won't even consider eating.

                      Nice looking snake Doug!
My BP refuses to eat anywhere but in his cage. I found this out after 8 weeks of experiments and trying everything to get him to eat in a tub. On a positive note he has no problems eating f/t rats when he is not on a BP fast.

                        Hey Xzylum,

Thats funny you had that respoce with tapping to get a ball to feed. I have always done that with hard feeding balls that people have brought to me. Works 95% of the time.

My wifes Ball Python we have been real luck with. Baby is over a year old, and is a total pig. Never refused food even once. The only catch when she was young (born to 5 months) is that she would only take prey if my wife was holding her when we offered food. She would take the food, coil it and we could set her down to eat.. But now she takes it while in the feed box..

                          HI,
this BP seems to be a bit aggresive and not a bit afraid of me . I put him in the sweater box until he's big enough for the cage he's in now many Python forums for BP's talk about stress and the cage . The cage he's in now is 2/4 ft so the sweater box allows him to feel safe, most of my really young animals seem to like small cages , after a few month I 'll see if he can handle the 2/4 cage ..He's so little now he may be able to wedge thru the slidding glass in the cage.. hehe
                          doug
here's Jr watching me type this post inside his sweater box ...Its fuzzy cause the plastic sweater box is blue and hazy, but you can see he's peeking over the paper watching..
                          doug ;D
