One thing that would be greatly help full is how to sex the T's and other Arachnids. The reason I'm asking, is because I looked at the pictures of how to tell if it was a male or not. I looked at mine last night. Let me tell you, he did not like being upside down!!!!! I looked at his Pedipalps (which I'm assuming it the "arms" that are on the very front that are shorter then the rest of the legs) and I didn't see the swallen "balls" on there. So, I would assume that he is a she. But I would like to be certain. How would I tell if she is in deed a she?

Sure I'll get corrected..BUT doesn't something with the molting thing have some input as to their sex also ?
Speaking of.. Someone toss me a molt.. I've got a friend who is a worse arachnophobic than myself hehe. I can use that while he's busy LHAO at me when I find them daddy long legs in my tent when camping ...LOL Bet I'd get the bigger laugh over the whole thing too ;D hahaha

I'd send you one, but it doesn't handle well. Mine's been in a box for about a month now, and it's already almost broken.

        Re: sexing

8)Ok well there are several diffrent ways to tell if its a male or female unless you have a microscope and a freshly molted sking looking at the epigastric furrow is the only real way to tell for sure if its a male or female.. I usually go buy the line thats the epigastric furrow thats the little line you see running from one book lung to the other on the top pair of book lungs..looks like a little slit..now if that dont reach all the way to each book lung on the top pair then more than likely its a male and the females have a slit thats good size and will reach all the way across to each book lung on the top pair.. Also in males they tend to be more leggy and slimmer smaller butts and also more active than females. They sometimes have the matting hooks on the front legs not the pedipalps, the first set of legs, sometimes they have these befour maturing out as males, and only the males have these hooks.. Also males have a tendancy to have a much bigger and wider carapace. Now i have also found this page for ya should help ya out more... hope this helps...http://tarantulas.com/howtosex.asp

OK, unless you are an absolute expert, that website is very confusing!!!!! Now I've got a head ache!!!! cwm36.gif I do know what you mean by the book lungs though. But I'm not sure about the epigastric furrow. Is that just the crease between the lungs. This is in the hind end of the spider, right?

              Re: sexing

              8) No prob on being confused , its sometimes hard to explain.. anyways the slit that we are taking about is the one that runs from one book lung to the other book lung, which would be the pair thats on the top, which all of this is under the belly, now if the T ever walks on the side of the cage take a flash light and look at the under side of the belly.. you will see 2 pairs of what looks like little patches, there will be a small but noticeable line running from one patch to the other on the top pair, which is closest to the last pair of legs..these patches are the book lungs.. now if that line dont go all the way over from one to the other book lung or is very tiny then more than likely its a male but if the line is very noticeable and reaches right to each book lung and is somehwat curved than its a probable female.. most of the time im dead on with this.. but there is always a chance im wrong,, the best way i tell is not only what i told you but also the way the T acts and looks.. What was the size of your T again??? I know this is all confusing.. After all these years with working with Ts theres always that one or two that are not what i had predicted..hehehe!!!

                    Re: sexing

I'm going to have to look at him tonite and see if he is really a her. As far as how he act. Well, he really doesn't do much, pretty much just sits in his cave and stays there. Occasionally comming out and sitting on top of the cave. He is about 3.5-4 inches around. In case you don't remember it's a chilean rose hair. So if it's a female, there is a distinct line between the book lungs that you can see when looking at the hind end or is it on the "belly" of the carapace (where all the legs are attached)?

                        Re: sexing

Actually, I'm borrowing a DVD camcorder from work tonite. I'll take some pics and get them on the website ASAP. I'm not that worried about the sex. I just want to have an Idea of how long I get to have it around. His name is The Gromble, so if you've ever watch Ahhh! real monsters you'll know that he's kind of unisexed.

I flipped her over again, last nite, yep she's a girl!!! I was able to see that line you were talking about. I also took a closer look at her molt, and it looked like there was a slit on the inside, in that spot. Thanks for you're input. Now I know I'll have her for awhile!!! ;D I took some pictures, I'll get them posted as soon as I can.
