  • Problem with T.

After that last shed my T is not eating... I have checked his lil' fangs and they are fine when he shed it was complete...
But now all he does is sit in his burrow under the water bowl...
What are some of the common reasons that a T gos off feed... I am so worried I don't want him to die...
    Thanx for the help/

    Re:Problem with T.

How long ago did he shed. You may have to give them a week or so for their shell to harden up before they eat. Also what are the temp and humidity level. It it is too hot or too cold, or the humidity it too high, they may not eat either. Plus if the humidity is too high, it may take longer for the shell to harden.

      Re:Problem with T.

The temps are fine and the humidity is good... I waited about a week and a half... Before I tryed feeding... They are kinda' small I was thinking that is why he is not eating but I can only get two sizes around here... Full grown and pin head... No inbetween... I use peat moss for substrate.. I just took his hide out of the cage becaues the way it was made there was no way for the crix to get in where he was... I thought maybe that was the problem.. But no luck... He just dug him self a hide under the water dish... He is active( as far as he dug him self a hole to live in...)
It is a brazilan black... Oh the temps are inbetween 75 and 85... somtimes it may drop down to like 70...
The humidity is perty eratic... but 90% of the time it is around 70% Somtimes I have seen it as low as 40% but that is just for a couple hours tops...
Please help.. I don't know what to do...
Can you get bad peat... Like could the peat I got have chemicle on it or somthing... Should I try to use somthing like bed-a-beast...
      Thanx for any help...

I'm not sure if you can get "bad" peat or not. I usually just look at the bag and all the ingredients. It'll tell you if there are any chemicals or not. If you can ever catch a time when you T is actually out, you may want to hold him and see if his shell has hardened yet or not. Also, one thing I've found, if you throw the cricket right on top of him, that sometime gets a good feeding response. Just an Idea. Maybe Cuda will have some better suggestions for ya.

:-\ Red sorry to here your T is acting wierd.. Sometimes they go off feed for no reason at all.. I would up the prey size and see what it does, how long ago was it that it molted?? You may want to keep the temp around 78 and drop the humidity just alittle for a week and see what happens.. Do you have a light on the cage Red?? Most Ts come out at night and it could be thats when its out crawling around and you dont see it.. Now if you have a heatting pad under the tank that could be why its digging in to stay warm or could be that its digging in to stay cooler.. If the prey items are to small then it will just hide because of the prey items harassing it.. But like i said some Ts will go off feed for no reason and then just start eatting again after awhile.. Could it be getting ready to go thru another molt?? As far as the bedding goes i dont think thats whats bothering it..

He is fine as far as when I hold him he is hard and all...
So I will try those thing thanx cuda'..

8)Thats great to here Red.. wooohoooo.. anyways theres alot of Ts that will just go off feed for no reason and then one day start eatting like a crazy pig.. LOL!! But thats really good to here.. each time it molts it will take longer for it to start feeding again as sometimes it takes up to 2 weeks for it to be hard and ready to eat.. My "India" my huge female indian ornamental takes few weeks after molting befour she starts eatting again.. she just molted alittle over a week ago and finaly took some big moths last night...

It has been two weeks and about three days... somthing like that... That is a long time compared to the 7 days the time before that... And he probley would have eaten before that 7 days but I just waited that long to offer him some...
His butt is still small but we will see after I feed again tonight...
