Looking good. I was checking out a baby sav this morning in the petshop.. I had to bring 36 pinkies for the store. The one they had was real nippy. Didn't even get my hand in the tank and he was trying to nip it,...LOL.. Hard to be scary when your only 6 inches..LOL But I did hold him and he chilled down... Love those back spots...
Thanks Steve...Yeah, Tank puts up a little fuss but, he calms down after you hold him..Sweetie on the other hand is a sweetheart hense the name Sweetie...So, did you ever get that Mali Uromastyx??
They run anywere from $30 dollars to $80 I know a breeder and got my pair for $40 bucks. They get to be Max 5 feet..but most average out at around 3.5 feet. These are wonderful Lizards and they make great pets..Although they can be a handful when they get bigger!
I can't wait until they get big...I had one in high school that was about 4 feet I gave him to a friend to hold when I joined the Navy then I got stationed in spain for 4 years and I couldn't take him..By the time I was ready to get him my friend had grown attached to him so I figured it best to let him keep em...There really great pets..its kind aweird the pics don't show it but, they both have a lot of pink in them..I never saw pink on a sav before...
I looked and held both the Mail and Sav today. The mali pee'd on me..LOL.. I think If I do end up with a lizzy it would be a Sav.. They are so active and funny to watch when their young. That head tilt they do like the beardies always gets me..LOL.. My do does the same thing when you talk to her...
Time will tell. I have a few projects to finish first. But I think a Save would be the way to go since you can feed them mice as they get older.. Much easier then mutching up veggies every day..
Here is a question about Savs.. I was reading an artical that was talking about bites from Sav's and they if they break the skin, there is a good chance of infection even if you clean the cut.. Any takes on that?
I agree with that in away..There is a good chance it could get infected.. but, you can get an infection from a bite from anything. All monitors carry bacteria in there mouths. People assume since Sav's, niles, mangroves, and croc monitors are so similar and closely related to the Komodo Dragon that there bites cause infection. Well the bacteria in a Komodo Dragons salive will cause a nasty infection!! You can actually see the spit and drool coming out of a komodos mouth at all times its like a big dog. This is the way the kill there prey. If it gets way they'll track it for a few days until it dies of severe infection. This is not the case with the smaller monitors. If you get bit I reccomend cleaning thouroughly ith antibacterial soap..I don't use peroxcide some people do I think it just makes it worse. I've owned many monitors and been bitten many times and all in all I never got an infection once...Just keep the bite spot clean , dry ,and open to the air and you should have no problems..Man I know thats probably more info then you needed but talking about Monitor lizards gets me going..sorry ;D
Don't get me wrong I love my boa and am learning more and more about them every day thanks to this forum but, moitors are were its at for me..thanks for the awesome forum Clay!!
