  • Yet another Skink rescue in

    Hey all,

Well this is turning out to be an odd year. Never had one Skink come through the rescue and now I have had three in a short time.. Unlike the first one who had a burn, the second one who had a deep gash, this one is just seriously under weight. The store again was PetCo..The pics don't show the full extrent, but his hips are seriously sucked in because all his fat reserve is gone, his neck is showing bone, the tail is super thin and his face is way too thin, not to mention his whole spink is very bisable by just looking. He also has a broken toe. I will set that after he puts on some weight. The reptile girl at the store said he came in 4 days ago, and refuses to eat. I have had him two night and he will eat as long as I stick feed him. He like the other skink loves Turkey cat food in gravy. I mix some viaimins, calcium and a few wax worms in it and hold it out for him to eat. I do expect he will get nice a fat. This one is like the other one and likes to be held.. We expect him to recover 100%...
Here are some pics of the Skink..

;D Good Job Steve. Know keep all three and you won't have to get any more skinks..lol.
BTW a good way to tell a healthy lizard from a sick lizard is to look at the thickness at the base of the tail closest to the back legs if this section of the body is good and thick you have a healthy lizard if its reall skinny like above you have a very unhealthy lizard. In all my years of raising different types of lizzys Ive used this method and it always works.

                          Hey Guys,

Well this one has me worried. I am guessing he is not just starving, but I think he is infested with paracites.. Started light Flagil treatment tonight.. Need to get my hands on some Baytril...

                          Jayson,

Yup thats where they store their extra fat.. Always a good idea to look for a nice fat hind end.. Its helps..

I totally agree with Mitchy, I have always ised that to determine how healthy a lizard is. My Tegu's tail is freakin FAT! Guess he is a healthy muther.
