  • Fluval U2 filter has made the new set up water PINK !?

    Hey guys and gals ...

I've just been running a Fluval U2 internal filter in a new tank of fresh tap water and today I noticed the water had gone pink ... I checked inside the filter and it had two rectangular sponges in excellent condition ... although each sponge had a black side and a PINK side .

I'm presuming that the pink side of each sponge is causing the water to go pink but is it temporary and is it dangerous or is it normal for a fresh set up ?

The filter is a used one and hasn't been used for a while .

    Any ideas !!?

    Thanks !

It's currently just an empty tank , just water plus the filter running .

It's got to be the pink from the pink filter sponges but I'm just wondering if it's normal occurrence with fresh chlorinated water being present or could it be that the pads are starting to leak the colour !??

I don`t think that its suppose to change colours but i could be wrong. I would say change it up a bit, just to see if the same results happen. Maybe try without the sponge and just use the pads. I wish i can help you a little bit more but i`m just throwing ideals at you.

I have worked in water treatment (DI, Softening, Conditioning) and Pink Water to me is a red flag for bacteria.... clean clean clean that out to be safe

I'm pretty sure it was simply the pads kicking out BROWN stain ... I contacted the previous owner and his water was brown from bogwood ... The new water clear !
            Thanks !

Activated carbon can be used to absorb any impurities as well. It will make your water nice and clear.
