Your favorite chelonians?

What are your favorite turtles/tortoises? My favorite turtle would have to be the Western Painted turtle, I love the markings on their plastron (underside). I like the look of the diamondback terrapin, but the Western Painted holds a special place, because it was my first herp catch. As for tortoises, I like the look of leopard tortoises. Galapagos torts are cool also, but even if it were legal to keep them, it's not possible for most people to keep such a large tortoise at home.

Haven't deal with owning a turtle since I was younger, but for a pet, I like the eastern painted turtle, Russian boc turtle.. Now the ones I think are very cool, but not good pets, that would be the alligator snapping turtle..

My fovorite turtle would have to be the Diamond Back Terrapoin I think those guys look so cool. My favorite tortise would have to be the Gopher Tortise they are native to Florida and are on the endangered species list.

I also think that Alligator Snappers are cool. Unfortunetly they are on the endangered species list too.. There not good pets although if you catch them when there babys you can keep them up until the get about as big as a baseball or soft ball and there not to snappy since there used to being held..Its pretty cool to watch the eat in the tank by doing the worm thing with there tounge...lol

My favorite turtles would be the tortises like the red foot and there are numerous greek turtles. I ve always wanter a hermann's dwarf tortise.

I would own a shelled pet, but man they do make a hugh mess and give off some smell.. Not to mention the size enclosure they really need to thrive.. But they are nead...

And Jayson.. Didn't know they were protected by you... Here we have a lot of them all over.. The painted turtles are ones you don't see much these days..

i have a lil baby painted turtle -- squirt.. ill post some pics today. I found him in a puddle with a broken leg, but that healed and now hes growin like a weeed
