  • Always read the label/directions! Horror story...

My dad is a kind hearted man who has a real soft spot for animals hidden behind his tough exterior. He works all night sleeps all day and tries to do what he can on the weekends. Well he is on vacation this week and decided to tackle some household projects like cleaning the garage and cars and so on. Well while cleaning he found some flea medication and decided to use it on some of the cats(we have 9, mostly barn) well he knew the general idea of those spot treatments, use open the tube and squirt it on the animal., well he thought that if he spread it on more of the areas it would protect more/longer. Well he grabbed 2 cats and begin spreading it from neck to tail on then all along the spine. He continued on with 2 more and then went inside to grab a pop and my mom went outside to dump trash and found one of the cats having what appeared to be a seizure. She called the emergency vet number and they rushed to meet them there. After a short time they had an iv on the cat and a sedative and bathed him. The vet said they'd call when they knew more. Well they got home to find the second cat also having a seizure! They called the vet again and my dad stayed behind and washed the other 2 cats. Come to find out later the medication he used was also DOG strength! Vet said 1 cat is stable, no word yet on the 2nd.

We love our pets dearly and my dad is so beside himself with guilt and sadness. I don't blame him at all and I feel so bad that he blames himself. I urge everyone to please read all directions on products, do research on new products and methods. Don't take a chance with the life of your pets! Please pray for my our cats Leo and Cinnamon and that they pull through and make full recoveries!

Best of luck, I hope they pull through and get better. I feel sorry for your dad as well, it's always horrible to feel that it's your fault your animal is sick

I hope everything turns out okay. I had a friend who would purchase one dog application and use it on her three separate cats, it always worried me. Chemicals are nothing to be guessing about.

Good news from the vet! The kitties are both doing great both still have some twitches/flinches but they have improved a ton! Vet says they need to stay on IVs and at the vet for another day or 2 yet but we are so happy they survived. Luckily the vet is also going to let us do a payment plan... No word yet on the damage done there. My cats are worth every penny

                  That's a real bummer of a story

However, I'm glad to hear that they're doing better!

I hope they pull through. This is horrible. I know your father feels horrible about this and all I can say is, we are human and make mistakes. I hope they pull through.
