  • Sgt. Stubby (for Lar)

Lar gave me the idea to post another good dog story.

Here's a story and a link to the War Dog Memorial. The story is about an APBT USMC Sgt. Stubby, the most decorated American war dog.

I have the April 1st, 2001 Parade Magazine article featuring Sgt. Stubby on the cover framed and hanging on my wall.

Great story! Too bad so many people can't experience the joy of owning APBTs because of media scare tactics. BSL makes as much sense as HR2811.

I think this story is hyped up (this is all in jest of course). Owning an APBT myself, I can put together how Stubby really captured the spy and saved everyone from being gassed to death.

APBT's are a VERY annoying/needy dog. They constantly must sit in your lap and administer dermal abbrassian therapy to your face with their tongues. This means that they'll lick your face until a layer or two has peeled away. They must always lick you and sit in your lap, not letting them do so causes them to emit a high pitched velociraptor sound from their gullet.

I think Sgt. Subby ran to the wounded to try and lick at their faces and when he couldn't (because they were wounded and trying to fend themselves off from being annoyed to death) Stubbs velociraptored and barked in frustration until the wounded was carried off to a field hosptial because they too were tired of the noises.

Stubby annoyed a German spy until he gave up. then proceeded to lick his face. In order to keep morale up, it was written that Sgt. Stubby bit the spy and captured him. Really, he just wanted some one to pester.

APBT are certainly needy dogs, but they are needy because all they want to do is appease you. My APBT is a decent obedience dog and he's wonderful with the feeder/ pet rats. He shows zero interest in chasing them or playing with them. My pet rats have escaped (while cleaning their cage) and Nibbles just sits there and watches them run by. Now birds on the other hand... he's a great bird dog. He works in the field just like a springer spaniel :O

Great story about Stubbs, thanks for sharing! Always good to remind people that APBT's used to be the iconic family dog in America.
