Re:Colossal Rats...
Cuda, I always had fresh females (younger females averaging 6 months old) that I bred. They would average 13 to 15 babies, although I have seen 18 before. It is probably the species of the rat you are using. 33 is a huge number. Was she capable of raising that many or did you seperate them with other mothers?

Re:Colossal Rats...
Clay she had no prob raising them even though after 2 weeks i did snatch a few from the litter to freez, i took 5 from her at that time, the other female had 26 and ate one and she raised them all the way, after they were weaned i had seperated the males and froze all but one male and then froze only 2 females and kept the rest for future breeding, All i know about what species they are is they was sold to me as feeder colossal rats and they are by far bigger than any jumbo i have delt with.. Now this one male i have been using has bred back to 6 of his daughters all in the same day about 2 weeks ago we shall see how they do, gona start seperating the females to new cages as they are getting pretty fat. These females are about 5 months old, these are out of the mom that had 33, now by any chance would they carry the genetics to throw huge litters like there mom?? At the age they are now they are larger than your average large rat.. The female that had 26 pups was on her second litter as her first litter was only 5 and i was givin her another chance to prove a good breeder she put out good this time around, shes due to go back in with the male again today and we shall see if she can put out once again that many babies.. The female that had the super huge litters is getting a 2 week break from breeding, then we shall see in her next litter what she puts out.. I dont know, is it just me with freak rats or has anyone else had unreal size litters of rat pups?Comment

Re:Colossal Rats...
8) Ok got three females out of the mom that had the super huge litter getting ready to drop and man are they huge, bellies draggin on the ground and super round to.. We shall see if it is genetic that she passed it to her young to produce large litters.. These females are about 5 months old and if they put out more than say 19 pups in there first litter than im gona guess that she did put out those genetics for producing large litters.. Now my Q is should i wait till the second litters from the new moms to really judge wether or not there mom passed on the genetics to produce huge litters to her offspring?? :-\ :-\Comment

Re:Colossal Rats...
8) Well today the smallest of the three females poped out 13 pups, she is the size of a medium rat, so i guess thats a good amount of pups for her first litter.. now the second female is having babies as i type this,, later il go out and see what she has put out, shes larger the size of a average large rat.. the last female about the same size as the second female is do in few days.. Im hoping that somewhere these females out of the mom that produces huge litters will prove that it is genetic and can be passed down to her babies to produce huge litters.. only time and these three females can prove it.. 8)Comment

Re:Colossal Rats...
;DOk second female gave me 17 pups yesterday so thats a total of 30 pups between the 2 young moms, well i guess they did good enough to stay out of the freezer.. LOL!! we shall see how they do on the next breeding, rat number 3 still has yet to pop, maybe she will have even more than 17 we shall see... Still trying to figure out how do i judge wether or not mom passes them genetics down to produce huge litters, mom is back in with the male and so are a few other females that came out of another female. gona go out and sort thru the pups and select few for freezing tomarrow. :PComment

Re:Colossal Rats...
8)yeah he does do his job well and its always been the same male, i have a younger male out of him but hes not ready for breeding.. See thats just the thing it could be him thats genetic to produce such huge litters but i really think its all up to the female.. il know sooner or later gona keep breeding these females and see if moms daughters can do what she does.. ;D

If you was ever to be someplace i was then i would go ahead and bring you a pair or so.. I know BadBoyJay wants some hes gona be right down where im going the first week of december so im taking him down some.. I have been getting some huge litters of pups out of my Rex females, then i have one female that has given me over 23 pups shes due to get rebred soon.. I really think its genetics that plays a huge roll in how many pups a female can put out.. Plus if the male is a good breeder to...Comment
