Dog Rats..

??? Ok anyone delt with rats that are called dog rats?? If so what are they like as breeders, caging requirements and what size litters would they put out? I tried to get my hands on some but the guy only had frozen, no live breeders.. If there that good of size wouldnt it be easy to feed one of them insted of say 2 jumbos each feeding? Just wondering, Clay or Steve have you seen these rats??

To be honest I have never heard of dog rats. The closest I was to different rats was the hairless.. They look like Weird alians..

8) Hey Gun Lover whats the scoop on the dog rats do you know anything about them?? Were the ones you saw handable? They are supose to be as big as rabbits, now if only i can get my hands on 2 breeder pairs il be all set... ;D

I still couldn't find out much info on DogRats.. I talked to the buyer from the pet shop about Dog Rats. He said he never heard of them, and if they are imported from Africa, they couldn't be gotten any more.. Money pox and all..

:-\ Hey Steve im sure it was dumerils.com that had them frozen and they use to have a pic of one next to a rabbit for size refferance and now they dont have that pic anymore and there not listed unless there what they now call giants.. il have to e-mail um and see what they say.. wish i had a pic they was really big rats.. :-\ I still wana get me 2 pairs if i can ever get my hands on um... :-\

Hey cuda, They had them there at the show!! It was Classic dumerils that I bought a bunch of frozen dog rats there. They also had some of them there live. Only the males get to Dog rats size!! For those of you who have never seen a dog rat. Think of a rat about the size of a medium sized bunny!! They are absolutly gigantic. They are a super breeding project of very large rats. The males get to dog Rat size and the females get to colossal size. Lily and I was asking about them, because they had some live ones and we thought about getting another pet rat.

WOW THOSE ARE SOME HUGE SOUNDING RATS BUT ME I ONLY KNOW OF ONE LARGE RAT AND THOSE ARE LIKE THE SACRAMENTO RIVER RAT AND LET ME TELL YOU THOSE ARE THE BIGGEST RATS I HAVE EVER SEEN THEY ARE SO BIG MY FULL GROWN CAT COULD RIDE ONE THERE EVEN BIGGER THAN A POSUM <SPELLCHECK BUT THERE NOT HEALTHY AND THERE JUST MEAN. WELL I DONT WANT TO GET IN TROUBLE BUT WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I WENT CAMPING ON THE RIVER WITH MY MOM AND WE WERE SITTING OUT FISHING (WE WERE USING CHICKEN LIVERS) AND THESE HUGE RATS CAME UP AND TOOK MY BAIT SO I GOT A 22 RIFLE AND I KNOW I HIT IT AND ALL IT DID WAS RUN OFF AND THE OTHERS JUST KEPT COMING IT WAS TRUELY SCARY.

OH AND ON ANOTHRE TOPIC I HEARD THAT THE RATS WITH DUMBO EARS ARE OR TEND TO BE NICER THAN THE SMALL EARED RATS, IS THAT TRUE?\
